Quetico Park is currenly replacing the lighting in its Dawson Trail Visitor Information Pavilion.  Older style florescent fixtures are being replaced with florescent-style tube comprised of tine LED lights.   These will use far less energy and will generate no waste heat (and so reduce the need for summer air conditioning).
In March Quetico Park will be replacing older style solar panels at the Cache Bay and Beaverhouse facilities with more modern, high performance panels.   This will increase the amount of solar generated electricity available to operate these facilities.
Souris River Canoe Company is just about to open a new canoe making facility in Atikokan, Ontario.  The facility will be heated by geothermal energy extracted from the surrounding soil through a large network of underground coils through which ethelyne gloycol is pumped to a heat-exchanger.
Voyageur Wilderness Programme continues to demonstrate leadership and innovation in their eco-practices at their island base on Nym Lake near Atikokan. They developed Ontario's first island wetland for waste-water treatment which uses aquatic plants and organisms to filter waste water. This natural waste-water cleansing system minimizes their environmental impact on the surrounding lake.
